The number of people who chose to file their self-assessment tax return on the first day of the tax year has more than doubled since 2018.
HMRC revealed that more than 77,500 people submitted their tax returns for the 2022 to 2023 tax year on the 6th of April 2023, compared to almost 37,000 customers on the 6th of April 2018.
With the deadline date to file for the 2022 to 2023 tax year on the 31st of January 2024, those who file early can really benefit from knowing how much they owe in tax sooner rather than later, and there’s also the fact that they can find out if they are owed money from HMRC at an earlier date.
