UK employees are more likely to choose a job that has better benefits than higher pay, finds a new survey.
Data shows that 40% of UK workers would apply for a job that offers a lower salary if it provided generous benefits, such as private healthcare, dental care, income protection and death in service.
The MetLife UK research revealed that although 37% cited financial bonuses as being important in a job, as many as 47% said that hybrid and flexible working was a key benefit for them.
This was followed by annual leave allowances (cited by 42%) and mental health support and wellness packages (34%).

Commenting on the findings, Adrian Matthews, Head of Employee Benefits at MetLife UK, said, “Benefits are becoming increasingly more important to employees, and rightly so. Competitive salaries are important, but businesses need to realise that it’s not the only thing candidates think about when assessing job opportunities.
“Employers need to look beyond pay cheques and assess options for wider support and protection to attract and retain the best people.”
