Small Business Saturday is celebrating its fifth year in the UK and takes place this weekend on Saturday 2nd December.
Originally founded seven years ago in the USA, the event aims to highlight small business success and encourages consumers to ‘shop local’ by supporting small firms in their area.
Many small businesses take part in the day by hosting events and offering discounts, while customers across the UK go out and support all types of small businesses, either online, in offices or in stores.
The campaign is both supported and promoted by the likes of American Express, the Federation of Small Businesses, Lightspeed, Vistaprint and Indeed.
Michelle Ovens MBE, Director, Small Business Saturday UK, commented, “Small businesses up and down the UK are making invaluable contributions to the nation’s economy, and now account for £1.8 trillion in annual turnover.”
She added, “It is really important that we support our local businesses, and one of our missions with Small Business Saturday is to champion the contributions our businesses make to local communities.”
