Those who need to complete a self-assessment tax return are being urged to be vigilant when it comes to scam texts, emails and phone calls from fraudsters.
With as many as 12 million taxpayers expected to submit a self-assessment tax return for the 2022 to 2023 tax year before the 31st of January 2024 deadline, there will be fraudsters attempting to trick people by impersonating HMRC.
This could be in the form of the promise of a rebate, telling people they need to update their tax details, or even threatening immediate arrest for tax evasion.
