Recent figures from the Office of National Statistics (ONS) show a continuing challenging market for employers.
As a result, many firms will be holding off on making any major business decisions as they await the outcome of the upcoming Budget.

The Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) has responded to the latest ONS.
REC Chief Executive Neil Carberry believes that stalled economic activity signals a growing pressure on the government’s initiatives to get people back to work and the need to boost private sector hiring.

He adds that a Budget focusing on helping businesses, rather than holding them back, is absolutely essential.
This means delivering a Budget that:
- Avoids unaffordable taxes.
- Takes a pragmatic approach to making necessary changes to the Employment Rights Bill.
- Supports flexible work.
- Improves public sector recruitment by tackling the higher costs the anti-agency push in the NHS is driving into the system.
