A new survey has revealed that if they had to choose, most workers wouldn’t put the office Christmas party at the top of their festive wish list.
In fact, 17% of those surveyed said they’d rather untangle a box of fairy lights than attend their Christmas work party!
What do workers really want this Christmas?
The research, conducted by Moonpig, surveyed 2,000 UK employees and found that while the majority (70%) said that celebrating the festive period at work made them feel closer to their team, only 11% would choose to attend an office Christmas party.
As many as 60% said that they would rather be offered an extra day off, while 21% would prefer to receive a thoughtful, physical gift from their employer.

Office Christmas parties bottom of the wish list for many workers
Many workers would rather do the following than join in with an office Christmas party:
- Spend a night in watching Christmas films (cited by 52%)
- Untangle a box of fairy lights (17%)
- Visit the dentist! (14%)
Respondents were also asked about the seating plan at an office shindig. They were questioned on who they’d least like to sit next to at such an event:
- 32% said the boss
- 16% said HR
- 13% said IT
- Just 5% said the marketing team, making them the least avoided.
