A new survey shows that many people are opting to give experiences or wellbeing gifts to loved ones this year.
This is perhaps due to the number of people (58%) saying they are choosing to prioritise their own mental wellbeing and stress reduction during the festive season.
Younger generations most into wellbeing gift giving
The Aviva report found that many people are thinking about how they can support friends and family this year.
Of those surveyed, 41% plan to gift shared experiences rather than physical presents this year, and 33% plan to offer practical help as a gift.
Interestingly, this gift-giving approach is more prevalent in younger generations.
In fact, another Aviva survey found that social connection is a significant factor for good wellbeing, particularly among 25 to 34-year-olds. This is resulting in many young workers describing their mental health as good or excellent.
Over half of Gen Zs (57%) and Millennials (59%) are choosing gifts such as meals out or cinema trips.

Almost four in ten adults (38%) say they are likely to give gifts that support mental or physical health (such as spa days or fitness activities), rising to 59% among Gen Zs and 56% of Millennials.
With the practical help gift giving, a third of respondents (33%) say they plan to give a ‘gift of time’ this year, such as babysitting, cooking, cleaning or DIY assistance, with 54% of Gen Zs and 52% of Millennials most likely to offer this kind of support.
Commenting on the findings, Dr Subashini M. Medical Director, Aviva UK Health, said, “Aviva’s research shows a positive generational shift in how we give. Younger generations are leading the way, choosing gifts that support our health and wellbeing.
“When we give gifts that nurture health and balance, we’re not only supporting loved ones today, but we’re also helping to build a healthier, happier society for tomorrow. After all, the greatest gift we can share is our health.”
