Half of SMEs reported issues concerning their employees’ health and wellbeing over the last year, with increasing pressure and bigger workloads thought to be a key factor.
The Lloyds Bank Business report polled business owners and decision makers across the UK and found that larger companies seem to have a much bigger issue with health and wellbeing.
For example, in comparison to the 49% of smaller sized firms, 73% of bigger companies (those employing 35+ staff) confirmed they’ve experienced these issues.
Of those surveyed, 20% said that they had personally become unwell because of pressure and stress in the workplace – figures show that those aged 35-44 were the age group most likely to become ill (30%).

Email JaimeGareth Oakley, Managing Director of Business Banking at Lloyds Bank, said, “The wellbeing and health of employees should always be a priority, but never more so than now, when we are dealing with the impact of the pandemic.
“Small businesses are working hard to support their workforces and, as our research shows, the ongoing influence of the past year on staff’s health can’t be underestimated. The months ahead may be a testing time for some British businesses, so it’s vital that employers continue to focus on both their own well-being and that of their employees.”
