The yearly campaign ‘Talk Money Week’ is being celebrated this week with the theme based on having open conversations about finances.

The Money and Pensions Service (MaPS) run the Talk Money Week campaign every year to encourage people to talk about money, to:
- Create more confidence around financial decisions
- Reduce financial stress
- Improve financial well-being
‘Start the conversation’
The theme for 2025 is ‘start the conversation’, and HMRC is encouraging families to help each other with their financial planning using their app.
Whether this is grandparents helping their teen grandchildren understand National Insurance, or even discussions around the State Pension and how to check forecasts.

Figures show that more than 5.6 million people have used the HMRC app since April this year. The most popular services that can be found on it include:
- Checking pay before it lands in your bank account and other PAYE information (4.14 million users)
- Viewing your annual tax summary (1.94 million users)
- Viewing or saving your National Insurance number, or checking contributions (1.79 million users)
- Checking your State Pension forecast (1.49 million users)
- Viewing your self-assessment summary and making payments (1.19 million users)
Myrtle Lloyd, HMRC’s Chief Customer Officer, said, “It’s not always easy talking about finances, especially between generations. As part of Talk Money Week, we’re encouraging families to lean into talking about money.
“From budgeting tips to tax basics, the HMRC app makes it easy to access tax information and kick start those important conversations. You can download the HMRC app today.”
