With workplace stress continuing to rise among UK adults, more workers are looking to their employer for physical and mental health support.
In fact, a new survey shows that over half of workers believe mental health resources are so important that it has become a deciding factor whether to join or stay with a company.
Workers’ expectations
Findings from the Robert Half Salary Guide highlights worker’s expectations when it comes to mental wellbeing, with many believing companies should offer health-focused benefits as part of their employee value proposition.
And while 48% of workers are drawn to firms providing stress reduction initiatives, a third of UK businesses still don’t offer this type of support.
Wellbeing through physical health
The report also found that a large number of employees are also looking for additional work perks to improve their physical health.

Half of those surveyed said having access to gym memberships would be a deciding factor to join or stay with a company, while 36% also value in-office physical activities – a perk that 41% of employers don’t currently offer.
Employee wellbeing must be at the heart of every organisation’s culture
Matt Weston, Senior Managing Director UK & Ireland at Robert Half, commented on the findings, “When businesses prioritise wellbeing, they don’t just retain talent, they empower people to thrive.
“These findings reflect a broader shift in employee expectations, where wellbeing is no longer seen as a perk but a priority. With wellbeing clearly now a key factor in talent attraction and retention, companies that embrace holistic support for their workforce are better positioned to succeed in today’s competitive landscape.”
